How to use this document:

These notes illustrate the process you should follow when appraising a senior member of your management team and the areas you should be discussing.

Used in conjunction with the performance appraisal preparation and record template, during an appraisal with your staff member you should be providing feedback based on areas this document covers.

Regular performance appraisals are the conduit for communication and feedback, upwards and downwards, throughout your business. At the management level it’s important that areas the subordinate staff member is responsible for are covered during the appraisal.

Providing feedback to your subordinate managers is essential to maintaining many of the management systems needed for your business – so that you can get the work/life balance you may be seeking, put your business under management or lay the foundations for expansion. It is critically important that the appraisal process concentrates on the positive feedback given to your staff member.
